(Modern Survival.org) – For people who don’t understand prepping, it all seems like a giant waste of time. Such individuals can become mocking and sometimes downright obnoxious in their efforts to poke fun at preppers. After all, why should anyone spend time and money stockpiling supplies if nothing major ever happens?
At first glance, this seems like a good question. But is it, really?
Prepping is a Long-Term Investment
The basic fundamentals of prepping are to be prepared for future uncertainties and to develop self-reliance. In the long term, this can actually save money.
Preppers tend to study skills that allow them to handle problems on their own, such as plumbing, mechanics, sewing, cooking, and carpentry. This do-it-yourself mindset saves them money in the long run as they don’t have to hire outsiders to do these jobs for them. Not only does this self-reliance save on costly repairs, but it also builds confidence.
Prepping Provides Peace of Mind
Even if there is never a world-altering disaster that forces a prepper to use all of their skills and supplies, they still enjoy a greater level of comfort than the average person. They know that if things do go bad, they’re far better prepared to face the challenges than the rest of the population.
A perfect example of this was seen during the onset of the global health crisis. While the rest of the country was panic-buying food and bath tissue, preppers were sitting pretty at home, far from the hordes of shoppers hunting for toilet paper. Not only did this keep them safe from potential infections, but it also eased some of the strain on supplies for the rest of the community.
Preppers are Better Supplied
One of the big perks of being a prepper is a steep decline in the need to go to the store. When items fly off of shelves, they don’t need to panic along with everyone else. The fact that preppers tend to purchase supplies in bulk gives them more time to spend on other activities. An added bonus to this is that purchasing goods in bulk also tends to be cheaper than buying smaller quantities at frequent intervals.
Preppers Tend to Be Well Informed
By preparing to face a large-scale disaster, preppers develop greater situational awareness than their average counterparts in society. They pay closer attention to the news, track their finances more, and learn to read trends in society that many others overlook.
