(Modern Survival.org) – What item is the most commonly used everyday carry (ECD) self-defense tool?
- Flashlight
- Pen
- Umbrella
- Magazine
Answer: Flashlight. Here’s why…
Flashlights are severely underestimated self-defense tools. Not only can they allow you to see in low-light situations, but they double as a weapon. They can be carried just about anywhere and can often be your first line of defense. For more everyday items you can use as self-defense tools, watch Survival Dispatch as Sootch shares some great ideas.
If you find yourself needing to use a flashlight as a weapon, be sure there’s enough handle to stick out of your fist. You can use this as a way to hit the attacker with something solid.
Aim for the head, neck, sides, and groin as these areas will affect the attacker the most, giving you the opportunity to run. If they chase you, you may have to get a little more aggressive.
Another way to use the light is to actually shine it in their face first to disorient them and leave them open to an attack. Regardless of which discreet EDC tool you decide to carry for self-defense, make sure you practice using it.
