Ending Homelessness With the Rapid Re-Housing Program

What is RRH?

The RRH program provides a tailored package to families and individuals facing homelessness in the United States, helping them return to permanent housing. Unlike many other programs that give basic assistance, the RRH creates tailored help based on the user’s particular needs. The help one individual receives won’t always be the same as that of another user.

In addition, the RRH doesn’t come with preconditions for eligibility, such as income levels, sobriety, or criminal records. Instead, applicants must meet point thresholds during the interview process. However, the program is temporary — up to 24 months of assistance at max.

Critical Components of the Program

Housing – The program helps individuals and families immediately leave a homeless situation by establishing agreements with landlords who participate in the program. It also addresses challenges that arise with landlord participation and helps users find homes that best fit their needs.
Financial Assistance – Most of those suffering from homelessness do so because of limited financial resources. To alleviate some of this burden, the RRH provides its beneficiaries with childcare support, utility assistance, and job training.

Case Management Services – The RRH program offers case management services to aid individuals and families in their quest to find stable, permanent housing based on their financial situation, preferences, and needs. These services offer options to mitigate legal issues and credit availability that would otherwise create a barrier to users seeking a home. They also can follow up with beneficiaries after they’ve secured permanent housing to assess their progress.
